News: Pelham U13 Girls Travel Soccer Bring Home Championship
November 15, 2009. Londonderry, NH….The Pelham U13 Girls Travel Soccer Team hoisted the GSYSL Division 1 Champions Cup on Sunday afternoon by defeating the Londonderry United Soccer Club 3-0. Adding to their accolades, Pelham was also awarded the GSYSL “Fair Play” award, which honored the team that displayed the best overall sportsmanship.

The Lady Bulldogs were well prepared and “fired up” for the game and struck first within minutes of the opening whistle. Stopper Colleen Mitchell sent a perfect pass behind an aggressive Londonderry defender to a speedy Shannon Walsh who broke away and finished with a low blast to the far left corner. Scoring Pelham’s second goal saw a crafty Morgan Pinksten, fed by Abby Scheetz, slicing her way through the left side of the 18 yard box and finished with a pinpoint shot into the corner. The final tally came from a feisty Morgan Walsh who emerged from a scrum in front of the Londonderry keeper and secured the Bulldogs lead with a left foot shot to the back of the net.

Londonderry never gave up and pressured Pelham’s defense and goaltender throughout the game. Solid play by keeper Madi Odryna and defenders Colleen Frey, Brooke Paradis, Kendra Luciano, Jayme Sloan and Colleen Mitchell kept Londonderry off the scoreboard as they continued to press hard to stay in the match.

“The championship was a total team effort” said Coach Walsh “through their hard work and dedication, these girls really came to believe in themselves and it showed on the field”. Congratulations to the “Champs”…Lauren Anderson, Mary Aylaian, Jessica Coakley, Baylee Duarte, Colleen Frey, Kendra Luciano, Maddie Medina, Colleen Mitchell, Madi Odryna, Brooke Paradis, Brianna Patterson, Taylor “T” Patterson, Morgan Pinksten, Abby Scheetz, Jayme Sloan, Asha Steele, Morgan Walsh and Shannon Walsh. News: U10 Boys Red Bulls – Fall Season Recap
boys 10 (2.08 MB)The Red Bulls have initiated themselves into the club as a true competitive soccer team to contend with. Being a brand new team to the Pelham Soccer Club, the boys (and girl) did not have any idea about the level of play or the intensity of the other teams they would be up against. However, they showed that they were up to the task. Though the Red Bulls started the season with a loss against Amherst, they improved as soon as the next game with Amherst again with a tie (until the last 10 seconds), and then they improved to a couple of hard earned wins after that. They were powerhouses against Derry. However, the Red Bulls still had to learn from some of their mistakes after a tough couple of losses mid-season that were mostly due some defensive confusion, but boy were they fast offensively. Most importantly, every player showed a definite progression in ball handling skills each game and practice. One of the highlights of the season when the team really came together was when the players figured out that passing the ball and communicating really made a difference, and the Red Bulls actually scored a goal from pass from another teammate. They had their first assist! They even began to use the “triangle” formation for some good passing during the last tough game against Salem. The players also got to know each other’s own personal strengths and weaknesses and were able to make decisions during the game to capitalize on those strengths. As expected each player had a favorite position but willingly tried every position they were rotated into by the coaches and learned that position’s strategies from a quick throw-in to a strong goalie kick off to the side. The team also learned that every player has a different personality, and they learned how to make friends with a teammate they may not otherwise ever talked to. The social values learned in practice brought the team even closer together. For a U10 boys team to go out and warm themselves up before a game with fellow teammates leading the entire disciplined warm-up including ball handling drills without a coach really says something about the growth of this U10 boys team. “1-2-3 RED BULLS!” Great Job Zach, Liam, Jack, Mitchell, Joe M, Joe C, Aria, Aidan, Ian, Jasper, Victor and Deven. See you in the Spring! Download boys 10

News: Shootout Win Propels Lady Bulldogs to GSYSL Final
November 7, 2009. SUSC Soccer Complex, Epping NH ….The Pelham U13 Girls Travel Soccer Team extended their season with an exciting shootout win against the Seacoast Soccer club.

The game went back and fourth during regulation time with both teams vying for an advantage. Late in the first half, Pelham’s Brooke Paradis sent a skillfully played left foot shot to the far post that was heading slightly wide. A hustling Shannon Walsh was in position to finish for the goal. Seacoast retaliated quickly as they marched down the field and scored on a shot from outside the 18 yard box.

The game remained locked in a tie that forced Pelham and Seacoast to battle through two “Golden Goal” overtime periods (sudden death). The excitement continued as the game came down to penalty kicks. Taylor Patterson, Asha Steele and Shannon Walsh each were successful in netting their shots. Seacoast had scored once and needed their next two shots to go in to stay alive. Pelham’s keeper, Madison Odryna stymied any potential of that occurring by making an incredible save where she had dove to her right in full extension within a hands length of a low blistering shot to punch the ball wide of the net. “What a proud parental moment for us” said mother Michele Odryna. “…and then to see the joy of the team as you all celebrated is a memory I will never forget.”

With the win, the Lady Bulldogs will play the Londonderry United Soccer Club in the GSYSL fall final on Saturday Nov 14 in Londonderry.

News: Pelham Lady Bulldogs End Regular Season Play on High Note
November 1, 2009. Raymond Fields. Pelham NH….The Pelham U13 Girls Travel Soccer Team ended its regular season play this weekend with a dominant victory over the visiting Derry Soccer Club 5-0.

Shannon Walsh got the scoring started late in the opening half off of a feed from Morgan Pinkston who had outmaneuvered the Derry defense and sent a cross over to Walsh for deposit.

Pelham came out of the halftime break making adjustments to counter the offside trap that Derry was aggressively employing. Taking advantage of the Bulldogs offensive speed, Pelham broke open the scoring with goals from Shannon Walsh (2), Asha Steele (2) and Taylor Patterson (1).

The Pelham shutout can be attributed to the fine defensive play of Colleen Frey, Colleen Mitchell, Kendra Luciano and Jayme Sloan as they stunted any effort by Derry to mount an offensive attack.

With the win, the Lady Bulldogs moved into first place heading into the GSYSL playoffs. Pelham’s momentum has been building as they have outscored their opponents by a total of 14-1 over their last three contests.

The Lady Bulldogs await the final standings to learn who they will meet at the GSYSL Fall League Tournament on Saturday Nov 7 at the SUSC Soccer Complex in Epping
