U10 Boys Red Bulls – Fall Season Recap
boys 10 (2.08 MB)The Red Bulls have initiated themselves into the club as a true competitive soccer team to contend with. Being a brand new team to the Pelham Soccer Club, the boys (and girl) did not have any idea about the level of play or the intensity of the other teams they would be up against. However, they showed that they were up to the task. Though the Red Bulls started the season with a loss against Amherst, they improved as soon as the next game with Amherst again with a tie (until the last 10 seconds), and then they improved to a couple of hard earned wins after that. They were powerhouses against Derry. However, the Red Bulls still had to learn from some of their mistakes after a tough couple of losses mid-season that were mostly due some defensive confusion, but boy were they fast offensively. Most importantly, every player showed a definite progression in ball handling skills each game and practice. One of the highlights of the season when the team really came together was when the players figured out that passing the ball and communicating really made a difference, and the Red Bulls actually scored a goal from pass from another teammate. They had their first assist! They even began to use the “triangle” formation for some good passing during the last tough game against Salem. The players also got to know each other’s own personal strengths and weaknesses and were able to make decisions during the game to capitalize on those strengths. As expected each player had a favorite position but willingly tried every position they were rotated into by the coaches and learned that position’s strategies from a quick throw-in to a strong goalie kick off to the side. The team also learned that every player has a different personality, and they learned how to make friends with a teammate they may not otherwise ever talked to. The social values learned in practice brought the team even closer together. For a U10 boys team to go out and warm themselves up before a game with fellow teammates leading the entire disciplined warm-up including ball handling drills without a coach really says something about the growth of this U10 boys team. “1-2-3 RED BULLS!” Great Job Zach, Liam, Jack, Mitchell, Joe M, Joe C, Aria, Aidan, Ian, Jasper, Victor and Deven. See you in the Spring! Download boys 10

Pelham U13 Girls Travel Soccer Bring Home Championship
November 15, 2009. Londonderry, NH….The Pelham U13 Girls Travel Soccer Team hoisted the GSYSL Division 1 Champions Cup on Sunday afternoon by defeating the Londonderry United Soccer Club 3-0. Adding to their accolades, Pelham was also awarded the GSYSL “Fair Play” award, which honored the team that displayed the best overall sportsmanship.

The Lady Bulldogs were well prepared and “fired up” for the game and struck first within minutes of the opening whistle. Stopper Colleen Mitchell sent a perfect pass behind an aggressive Londonderry defender to a speedy Shannon Walsh who broke away and finished with a low blast to the far left corner. Scoring Pelham’s second goal saw a crafty Morgan Pinksten, fed by Abby Scheetz, slicing her way through the left side of the 18 yard box and finished with a pinpoint shot into the corner. The final tally came from a feisty Morgan Walsh who emerged from a scrum in front of the Londonderry keeper and secured the Bulldogs lead with a left foot shot to the back of the net.

Londonderry never gave up and pressured Pelham’s defense and goaltender throughout the game. Solid play by keeper Madi Odryna and defenders Colleen Frey, Brooke Paradis, Kendra Luciano, Jayme Sloan and Colleen Mitchell kept Londonderry off the scoreboard as they continued to press hard to stay in the match.

“The championship was a total team effort” said Coach Walsh “through their hard work and dedication, these girls really came to believe in themselves and it showed on the field”. Congratulations to the “Champs”…Lauren Anderson, Mary Aylaian, Jessica Coakley, Baylee Duarte, Colleen Frey, Kendra Luciano, Maddie Medina, Colleen Mitchell, Madi Odryna, Brooke Paradis, Brianna Patterson, Taylor “T” Patterson, Morgan Pinksten, Abby Scheetz, Jayme Sloan, Asha Steele, Morgan Walsh and Shannon Walsh. Shootout Win Propels Lady Bulldogs to GSYSL Final
November 7, 2009. SUSC Soccer Complex, Epping NH ….The Pelham U13 Girls Travel Soccer Team extended their season with an exciting shootout win against the Seacoast Soccer club.

The game went back and fourth during regulation time with both teams vying for an advantage. Late in the first half, Pelham’s Brooke Paradis sent a skillfully played left foot shot to the far post that was heading slightly wide. A hustling Shannon Walsh was in position to finish for the goal. Seacoast retaliated quickly as they marched down the field and scored on a shot from outside the 18 yard box.

The game remained locked in a tie that forced Pelham and Seacoast to battle through two “Golden Goal” overtime periods (sudden death). The excitement continued as the game came down to penalty kicks. Taylor Patterson, Asha Steele and Shannon Walsh each were successful in netting their shots. Seacoast had scored once and needed their next two shots to go in to stay alive. Pelham’s keeper, Madison Odryna stymied any potential of that occurring by making an incredible save where she had dove to her right in full extension within a hands length of a low blistering shot to punch the ball wide of the net. “What a proud parental moment for us” said mother Michele Odryna. “…and then to see the joy of the team as you all celebrated is a memory I will never forget.”

With the win, the Lady Bulldogs will play the Londonderry United Soccer Club in the GSYSL fall final on Saturday Nov 14 in Londonderry.

Pelham Lady Bulldogs End Regular Season Play on High Note
November 1, 2009. Raymond Fields. Pelham NH….The Pelham U13 Girls Travel Soccer Team ended its regular season play this weekend with a dominant victory over the visiting Derry Soccer Club 5-0.

Shannon Walsh got the scoring started late in the opening half off of a feed from Morgan Pinkston who had outmaneuvered the Derry defense and sent a cross over to Walsh for deposit.

Pelham came out of the halftime break making adjustments to counter the offside trap that Derry was aggressively employing. Taking advantage of the Bulldogs offensive speed, Pelham broke open the scoring with goals from Shannon Walsh (2), Asha Steele (2) and Taylor Patterson (1).

The Pelham shutout can be attributed to the fine defensive play of Colleen Frey, Colleen Mitchell, Kendra Luciano and Jayme Sloan as they stunted any effort by Derry to mount an offensive attack.

With the win, the Lady Bulldogs moved into first place heading into the GSYSL playoffs. Pelham’s momentum has been building as they have outscored their opponents by a total of 14-1 over their last three contests.

The Lady Bulldogs await the final standings to learn who they will meet at the GSYSL Fall League Tournament on Saturday Nov 7 at the SUSC Soccer Complex in Epping

Pelham Lady Bulldogs Show Display of Strength in Weekend Play
October 24, 25 2009…Raymond Field, Pelham NH….Christen Calvary School, Derry NH….The Pelham U13 Girls Travel Soccer Team flexed their muscles this weekend in home and away contest vs. the Seacoast Soccer Club and the Derry Soccer Club.

Powerhouse Seacoast made a visit to Pelham on a dreary Saturday afternoon and met a buzz saw that awaited them as the Lady Bulldogs handed over a 4-0 defeat. “Our girls just wanted it more” said co-coach Kevin Walsh “Whether it was our forwards, mids or our defense, we came out and won more of the individual battles that make up the game”
Scoring for Pelham was Asha Steele (2), Shannon Walsh (1) and Morgan Pinkston (1) “Seacoast is the measuring stick of quality soccer here in New Hampshire” said co-coach Kim Walsh ”To be able to come away with a 4-0 win is a tribute to just how hard this Bulldog team played”

Pelham took to the road on Sunday to play the Derry Soccer Club and continued to find the back of the net outscoring their opponent 5-1. Pelham’s defense, led by Colleen Frey and Brooke Paradis, played an integral role by keeping the play out of the defensive end and distributing the ball forward to assist in the attack. Scoring for the Bulldogs was Shannon Walsh (1), Asha Steele (2), Lauren Anderson (1) and Abby Sheetz (1)

The Lady Bulldogs are home this weekend at Raymond Field where they will wrap up regular season play against Derry Soccer Club who will undoubtedly be seeking revenge. Game time is 2:15.

Freedom's Weekend Wrap-Up
Pelham Freedom played on Sunday October 18th against Souhegan Valley United in Amherst, NH. The weather was cold and dreary making it very difficult for the girls to get the momentum needed to put one the boards. Freedom players worked together, as usual, keeping the ball out of their zone not allowing Souhegan to penetrate the goal. Both teams fought hard and played a game in which they were both satisfied with the end result.

Pelham’s Freedom had their final away game of the season this past Sunday at Cemetery Fields in Amherst against Amherst Soccer Club. Under clear blue fall skies Pelham started the game with a new combination of forwards. Within the first few minutes of the game Lexi Gustavsen passed to Mikayla Patterson who made a beautiful cross pass to Nicole Gargano, who put the ball into the back of Amherst’s net. It was a great way to start the game but that would be the only goal Freedom would take the entire game. Late into the first half defensive lines broke down and Amherst was able to score on Pelham. The second half started the same as the first both teams ready to fight. Amherst forced a hard running game on Pelham and took total control of the half. Freedom’s girls seemed to be everywhere on the field just not in time to get the ball. Freedoms last game of the season will be played this Saturday, Halloween, at 2pm on the new fields at Raymond Park
If your child is interested in playing travel soccer, I encourage you to bring them down to the field to watch a game. Pelham Soccer Club has a group of talented boys and girls and is looking to add to the rosters. For more information on Pelham Soccer Club, please visit www.pelhamtravelsoccer.com.

Freedom's Weekend Wrap-Up
Pelham’s team Freedom played the first of two games this past weekend on Saturday in Hooksett. Freedom met their match in this contest as Hooksett was an extremely skilled and talented team controlling most of the game. Even in the rain soaked conditions Hooksett knocked off the Freedom scoring twice, ending the contest

Freedom then battled Keene (Cheshire United) at home. The conditions were much more desirable for this Sunday game. Freedom bounced back from Saturday’s game with a vengeance coming out on fire and putting constant pressure on Keene. Emma Custeau finally scored after she put some extreme pressure on the Keene goalie numerous times. Shortly after, Keene was able to penetrate Pelham’s defensive line and shot one clear into Freedom’s net. Freedom showed some great passing and teamwork during this contest hustling on every play of the game. Rachael Alexander showed off her “big boot” blasting a goal from about 30 feet out, right into the top of the net. Pelham continued their excellent play led by Mikayla Patterson, who was everywhere on the field and got to every loose ball. Rachel Marion took advantage of a great cross-pass from Nicole Gargano and was able to put one home scoring another goal for Pelham. Marion again had a multi-goal game really blasting one in the net after a great hustle play and pass from Patterson. Newcomers, Brittaney Ducharme, Jessica Fox, Courtney Kirsch and Shaina Pietrillo have really come along and are contributing to a strong stretch run and finish to the season.
Freedom will not be playing again until Sunday October 18th away in Milford.

Freedom's Weekend Wrap-Up
Pelham’s team Freedom hosted the Tri-City Soccer Club on Sunday, September 19th. The weather was hot and the action was even hotter in this game. The game was the story of two different halves of soccer. Tri-City came out on fire – they seemed to get every loose ball and win every battle for the ball. They controlled the ball with some nifty footwork in Freedom’s zone. After several shots at Pelham’s goal, Tri-City was finally able to get one past injured goal keeper Lindsey Niemaszyk with one minute left in the first half. The second half began and you could see the tide turning in Pelham’s favor. Freedom began controlling the tempo and dictating the pace of the game. The heat didn’t phase these girls, who displayed their superior conditioning. Freedom finally evened thing up with a goal by Lexi Gustavesen. Shortly thereafter, Gustavsen was at it again putting a rebound off the goalie deep into the back of the net and Freedom’s girls never looked back. Pelham had an excellent play by goalie Kayli Keenan in a one on one penalty shot. Niemaszyk capped off the second half of the game blasting a goal over the Tri-City goalie’s head from the top of the box.

Pelham hosted Hanover’s Lightening Soccer Club on Saturday September 26th. Although the weather was perfect for a soccer game, Freedom had their work cut out for them. Pelham met their match in this one as Hanover displayed great teamwork, passing and footwork the entire game. A back and forth match up that ended with either team unable to get one on the board. Freedom’s goalie Kayli Keenan made a beautiful save on a one on one penalty shot.

On Sunday, September 27th, Freedom travelled to Merrimack NH. The heavy rains held off but the conditions were less then perfect. Both teams battled through the wet slick field. There was pressure put on the defenders and goaltenders constantly by both Merrimack and Pelham. Pelham’s defender Robin Leuteritz was all over the field, constantly single handedly stopping numerous attempts to the goal. Merrimack was able to get one into an empty net captivating on a miscommunication between Freedom’s goalie and defensive line. Every push and attack on the Merrimack goal was stopped by their outstanding goalie. Pelham was unable to get one past her. Freedom will be back in action this weekend in Hooksett on Saturday and hosting Cheshire United for a 1:30pm game at the Soccer Fields at Raymond Park on Sunday. Lady Bulldogs lose to Amherst Soccer Club 2-0
September 27, 2009…Upper Raymond Field, Pelham NH….The Pelham U13 Girls Travel Soccer Team succumbed to the Amherst Soccer Club by a score of 2-0

The Lady Bulldogs struggled to put a complete game together. Pelham was able to control the play for long stretches of time with good passing and pressure on the Amherst defense. However, several scoring opportunities were missed as the Bulldogs had difficulty with placement of their shots. Amherst was a solid team and capitalized on two defensive breakdowns inside the Pelham 18 yard box.

The Lady Bulldogs will have their opportunity for revenge this Saturday, October 3rd at 3:30 where they play host again to the Amherst Soccer Club. On Sunday, October 4th, Pelham travels to Epping to take on Seacoast United at 1:30

Pelham Red Bulls - U10 Boys Soccer September 26/27, 2009
The newest and youngest Pelham travel soccer team is already showing great progress with their first well deserved win against Derry and their 2nd against Cheshire. The wins were extra special, for a number of reasons. The recap of the first two games must be mentioned to appreciate the win against Derry (and Cheshire).

The biggest challenge of a new and young team is getting to know each other, coaches and players alike. Even after many summer practices and hard work by all, this familiarity still hasn’t completely been established as it comes with more play time in real games. The first game against Amherst was definitely a “getting to know you” event where the coaches were trying players in a variety of positions including goal tending. The Red Bull team also got a feel for the change in intensity in a travel soccer league. This intensity was a bit of a shock at first, and the Red Bulls were scored on many times against Amherst who had some great passers. The Red Bulls still showed great athleticism and heart the entire game, so the team chalked up its season opener loss as a major learning experience.

The Red Bulls only got to sleep on it for one night and then return to the fields at Amherst the very next day to play the SAME strong team again. (It turns out many of the Amherst boys are “double rostered” for 2 teams.) The brave Red Bulls had already put the loss behind them from the day before and came out with a clean slate. The coaches had a better feel for some for the player’s strengths, so positioning had more strategy behind it. The Red Bulls also began to understand how to play with controlled intensity against a very physical team. After another hard fought game the Red Bulls showed promise with a tie score until the last minute of the game where the Amherst boys squeaked one last goal in.

So it was back to the drawing board with 4 practices and a weekend off. The Red Bulls used the extra time wisely with some conditioning and work on passing, defending (goal tending) and shooting.

The reward was an incredible win against Derry where the Red Bulls came out to gain the respect as a new club team to contend with. First, the Pelham team only had 7 players for most of the game, so that meant only one substitute. Each boy played with incredible endurance up until the very end. Second, the team clicked and suddenly came together with some great Defense from and Liam O’Connell and Joe Moore complete with communication. The goal tending was something to watch as young boys without much height advantage stopped “high balls” from going in net. Victor Palazzolo and Joe Carney and Ian Morgenstern aggressively stopped many very challenging shots. Jack Drolet showed strength both offensively and defensively with only one short rest the entire game and Aidan Caoutte helped out in keeping the offense attack strong. The glory came from the passing which turned into some beautiful goals. Ian’s strong offensive pressure deserves mention. He made some unbelievable shots on the other team’s net. (Derry’s goalie was quite good.) Joe Carney got the first goal of the game followed by Joe Moore who hopped into offense for the first time in the game, then ran it down immediately with a shot and goal. Later, as the team started to tire a bit from lack of substitutes, late arrivals Zach and Deven DeBay stormed onto the field and Zach Debay immediately scored with a nice shot after a great pass. This winning goal came in the last minute and the Red Bulls won 3 to 2.

The Red Bulls hosted Cheshire at home the next day in the rain with a full team. The Red Bulls seemed a bit slow at first (probably recouping from the day before), but then came to life in the second half. Jasper Kosa was alert and quick pushing the ball down offensively and Aria O’Connell drove through the Cheshire defense as well keeping the ball on Cheshire’s side for a good part of the game. Mitchell Haas held a good position on defense keeping the Cheshire field away from net. Zach Debay gave the Bulldogs 2 goals, one of which was off a penalty kick that went to the high corner. Deven Debay also scored helping the Red Bulls win their second game 3 to 1.

The Red Bulls have now showed that even thought they are brand new to the scene, they are worthy being a respected club team and can’t wait to progress further in future club teams challenges.

Pelham Lady Bulldogs Over NH Classics 2-0
September 19, 2009…Back River Field, Bedford NH….The Pelham U13 Girls Travel Soccer Team journeyed to Bedford to pick up their second win of the season with a 2-0 tally against rival NH Classics.

After a sluggish start the Lady Bulldogs began to awaken and counter the Classics excellent ball handling and passing. The tide slowly began to turn as Pelham was able to put pressure on the defense and get some quality shots on net. Shannon Walsh scored late in the first half with a loose ball from a rebound off the post that seemed reluctant to go in.

Midway through the second half, Maddy Medina put the insurance goal away as she willed herself through the defense and made a superb move around an aggressive Bedford keeper. Madison Odryna played very well in goal and kept the Classics off the board making five saves.

The Lady Bulldogs are home this weekend where they play host to the Amherst Soccer Club on September 27th at 3:00 at the new Upper Raymond Fields located off of Mammoth Road.

Pelham Lady Bulldogs Strong Season Opener
September 13, 2009…Upper Raymond Field, Pelham NH….The Pelham U13 Girls Travel Soccer Team opened up the fall season with a decisive 6-0 victory against the visiting Londonderry United Soccer Club.

Experience and strong play were instrumental in the lopsided victory as the Lady Bulldogs welcomed back all of their 2008/09 roster, as well as strengthening it’s depth with the additions of Asha Steele and Abby Sheetz.

Out shooting Londonderry 10-3, Pelham’s scoring came from Asha Steele (4), Jayme Sloan (1) and Shannon Walsh (1). The Bulldogs displayed excellent team play and moved the ball around unselfishly resulting in a variety of players assisting on the goals. Maddy Medina, Morgan Pinksten, Asha Steele, Shannon Walsh and Morgan Walsh were among the Bulldogs who helped deposit the ball in the net.

The Lady Bulldogs hit the road to play rival New Hampshire Classics on Sunday, September 20th. They return home to play the Amherst Soccer Club on September 27th at 3:00 at the new, Upper Raymond Fields located off of Mammoth Road.

Freedom 2009 Fall Season Has Begun
Team Freedom has some challenges to face this season. They have moved up to the U11 division creating more obstacles to go through. The new division requires more players, more positions and more rules. All of the girls are gelling and playing together like have been on the same team for years. Freedom’s coaches Derek Gustavsen and Chris Leuteritz are bringing the girls and their skills to the next level.

Freedom opened there season Saturday, against Bow Soccer Club and proved that not even these new challenges can stop them. The opening kick put Freedom immediately on their game. They came out on fire and never lost that momentum. After numerous shots on goal by Freedom’s offensive line Rachel Marion finally had a breakaway which resulted in a goal. Minutes later Marion was able to score off a rebound by Bow’s goalie. Bow fought hard but was never able to penetrate Freedom’s defense or goaltending. Freedom will be back in action on Sunday September 20th at the new fields at Raymond Park at 3:15pm against Tri Town Soccer. Pelham Lady Bulldogs 1-1 vs. Express Soccer Club
May 31, New Hampshire Technical Institute, Concord, NH…The Pelham U 12 Girls Travel Soccer team traveled to the State’s capital to take on the Express Soccer Club. The Bulldogs dominated play and did not allow the Express out of their own end until deep into the first half. Pelham played very well and continued to control the play but struggled to find the net blasting many shots wide and high forcing them to settle for a 1-1 tie. The lone goal for the Bulldogs was an impressive boot by Shannon Walsh who took out her frustration on the twine.

The Lady Bulldogs will finish the spring season this Sunday, June 7th on the road in Meriden, NH against a very tough opponent in the Lightning Soccer Club.

Pelham U 12 Girls Travel Soccer 2 Timberwolves 1
May 30... Pope Field, Atkinson, NH… The Lady Bulldogs went into Saturdays game against the Timberwolves knowing that they were going to be tested with only 11 players able to suit up for the match. Pelham’s game plan was to play aggressively in the offensive zone and try to prevent the wide open game the Timberwolves were trying to impose. With strong defense from Shannon Walsh, Mary Aylaian, Kendra Luciano and Brooke Paradis holding the midfield line, Pelham managed to thwart the efforts of the Timberwolves and press the offense taking the lead with a goal by Madison Medina off a pass from a hardworking Morgan Walsh who muscled her defender off the ball and forced a pass into Medina for the score. Shortly into the second half, the Bulldogs found themselves handicapped further when Brianna Patterson was involved in a midfield collision and was temporarily sidelined to shake off the injury leaving Pelham with a player short for a stretch of play. The Timberwolves struck to tie the game with a beautiful play that had an excellent crossing pass from the left sideline that was finished with a one touch shot past keeper Madison Odryna. With less than 2 minutes to play Madison Medina struck again off a pass from Taylor Patterson to win the game for Pelham and keep them firmly in first place.

Pelham's Freedom Is On the Move
Pelham U-10 Freedom was back in action this past weekend at home against Souhegan Valley United. This proved to be a good even match up with both teams executing on both ends. Two minutes into the game one of Freedom’s captain’s, Lexie Gustavsen, attempted to put a shot on goal however a Souhegan defender was there to stop it. Gustavsen didn’t give up on the play gathered the ball off the defender and beat the goalie with a quick shot on net. After much back and forth action Souhegan was able to penetrate Freedom’s defensive line and score.

The second half began with more of the same with both teams playing fundamentally sound soccer. The Freedom offensive push was constantly led by Rachel Marion. Marion’s hard work finally paid off when she was able to put back a rebound off a shot past the goalie. And again Souhegan would not be denied despite numerous saves by Freedom’s goalie Mikayla Patterson. As the game moved on, Pelham’s other captain, Morgan Walsh, took over the game blasting back to back unassisted goals. Freedom will be playing again at home on Saturday at 3:00 against Merrimack and then Sunday in Keene. For more information on the Pelham Soccer Club please visit www.pelhamtravelsoccer.com.

Pelham U 12 Girls Travel Soccer Fall Short in Memorial Day Tournament
May 23 - 25, Mines Field Nashua…The Pelham U12 Girls travel soccer team competed in the Nashua World Cup Memorial Day Weekend Tournament and were disappointed to fall short of a wildcard birth into the tournament playoffs.

Pelham’s first game was a 1-1 tie against Warren Youth Soccer of Warren, RI. Playing in an 8 vs 8 format and a shortened field, Pelham struggled to respond to their game plan and the quickness of the tight quarters. Scoring the lone goal for the Bulldogs was Jessica Coakley off a pass from Taylor Patterson. Pelham’s next match was against host Nashua World Cup whom they succumbed to 2-1. Nashua’s game winner and Pelham’s lone goal by Brook Paradise were “highlight reel” type goals just outside the 18 yard box and both “roofing it” just inside the crossbar. The Bulldogs managed to find their rhythm in the final game on Sunday against a physical WSA Soccer Club from Warrick, RI, beating them 1-0. Madison Medina scored the impressive lone goal by knocking down a goal kick and lacing it past the Warrick keeper.

The Lady Bulldogs went 1-1-1 and were ousted when head to head game results determined which team moved on.

Lady Bulldogs Dominate Souhegan Valley United
May 16 Milford NH- May 17 – Muldoon Park, Pelham…In a home and home dual against the Souhegan Valley United Soccer Club, Pelham’s Lady Bulldogs dominated their opponent outscoring them 15 – 0. Pelham was relentless on the road in Saturday’s match posting a 7-0 win. The entire team was firing on all cylinders but the defense played especially well and did not allow a single shot to find its way to the Bulldog’s keeper. Much of the same offensive tenacity was on display again on Sunday at Muldoon Park with Pelham forging ahead 8-0. Nine separate Bulldogs posted goals over the weekend. Leading the goal scoring was Shannon Walsh who notched two goals in each of the contests. Taylor Patterson and Colleen Mitchell were instrumental in leading the offense to the lopsided victories. Scoring their first goals of the season were Jessica Coakley, Baylee Duarte, Colleen Frey and Brianna Patterson. Additional goals were scored by Morgan Pinkston, Jayme Sloan, Lauren Anderson and Madison Medina

Pelham U12 Boys Remain Undefeated
Despite a sluggish performance on Saturday, Pelham's U-12 boys travel soccer team remained undefeated, settling for a 1-1 tie with Windham. After a few missed attempts to clear a ball in the defensive end, a Windham forward put a hard shot off the hands of goalie Brian Gettings and into the net for an early 1-0 lead. Pelham regrouped a bit after the half, and when Eric Guinasso was taken down in the box, Pelham was awarded a penalty kick. Midfielder Aidan Walsh put a high, hard shot just under the crossbar to bring Pelham even at 1-1. Despite several more chances, including a takedown from behind on a breakaway by Eric Guinasso with no call made, Pelham was unable to put the ball into the back of the net. Playing well defensively for Pelham were sweeper Kyle Bettencourt and stopper Jimmy Russo. Pelham's record now sits at 4-0-1 for the season.

Pelham Freedom Continues to Rock

The Pelham Freedom U-10 team was back in action in Litchfield against the Cougars this past weekend. Freedom came out on fire controlling the ball, keeping the pressure on the Cougars. The offensive line, lead by Lexie Gustavsen, Rachel Marion, Emma Cousteau, Kayli Keenan, Brianna Trudel and Mikayla Patterson showed great teamwork and super passing. Finally Patterson took the ball from mid-field, maneuvered through the Cougar’s defense with some nifty footwork, and blasted in a goal.
The second half began with the Cougars putting pressure on Freedom’s defense. Freedom battled back with some outstanding defense quelling the Cougar’s attack lead by Nicole Gargano (who was everywhere), Robyn Leuteritz, Rachael Alexander, Abbey Lachapelle and Mikayla Patterson. When Freedom’s defense was penetrated Lindsey Niemaszyk kept the momentum in the Freedom’s favor making numerous magnificent saves in goal. The game remained back and forth until late in the second half when Morgan Walsh crushed a shot on goal beating the Litchfield goalie with an assist from Lindsey in the Freedom’s Net. Pelham's U-12 boys travel soccer team is off to a impressive 4-0 start for the spring season. One year after going winless in their first season together, Pelham is firing on all cylinders. Two weeks ago, Pelham defeated Merrimack 2-1. After falling into a 1-0 hole on an own goal, Pelham tied the game with five minutes remaining on a tip-in by Dom Loiacono. With ten seconds to go in the contest, Cam Holdsworth chipped a ball over the Merrimack goaltender for the win.
One week ago, Pelham made the two hour trek to Meriden, NH and came home with a 2-0 win over the Lightning. Goals were scored by forward Eric Guinasso and stopper Kellan Brouder. Goalie Brian Gettings made several fine saves and sweeper Kyle Bettencourt anchored the stingy Pelham defense.
Saturday, Pelham found themselves in a tough spot on a muggy, warm day, starting the game with only ten players. Undefeated Litchfield took early advantage and Pelham trailed 1-0 two minutes into the game. Defender Kyle Bettencourt arrived, running from a baseball game, to give Pelham their eleventh player and the tide quickly turned. Pelham went on to score five unanswered goals and came away with an impressive 5-1 victory. Goals scorers for Pelham included Eric Guinasso and Aidan Walsh with two apiece and Justin Beecher with one of his own. Superb passing came from forward Joe Halpin, and midfielders Josh Clark and Joe Costa. Eric Rossi, pressed into goalie service, made several spectacular saves. The defense was fantastic as Kellan Brouder, Kyle Bettencourt, Jimmy Russo, and Sam Holdsworth chased down and thwarted any offensive attack Litchfield mounted.
After presenting their moms with roses before the start of the game on Mother's Day, the Pelham boys sent their mothers home with a second gift, posting a solid 6-0 victory over Souhegan Valley. Eric Guinasso scored four goals and was just joined in the scorer's column by Cory Snow and Dom Loiacono. Midfielders Matt Loiacono and Bailey Custeau sent the forwards in with many fine passes. Nick Wolfrom anchored the defense as goalies Brian Gettings and Sammy "The Bull" Holdsworth faced no shots in net.
Pelham currently sits atop the standings for the U-12 division at 4-0, tied with the Bedford Classics. They play next on Saturday, May 16th at 4:30, at Griffin Park in Windham. Any Pelham boys interested in trying out for the travel soccer fall program are invited to visit the Pelham Soccer Club's website at pelhamtravelsoccer.com.

Pelham U12 Boys win Sportzone Indoor Soccer Championship
Pelham's U-12 boys team recently took home the Sportzone Indoor soccer championship. Pelham easily beat their opening round opponent, the Bulldogs 7-0. In the second round, Pelham sent the number one seeded Hudson team home, defeating them 7-1. Goal scorers included Eric Guinasso, Aidan Walsh, Cory Snow, Josh Clark, and Eric Rossi. Key assists came from Bailey Custeau. Windham posed little problem in the semi-final game and Pelham was victorious by a 7-2 score. The number two seeded Gatorades of Lowell, Ma awaited Pelham in the final. Earlier in the season, this talented Gatorades team had beaten Pelham 9-8 and Pelham trailed early in the final 2-0. The team continued to chip away and tied the score late with goals from Nick Francoeur and Justin Beecher. With nine minutes to go, Joe Costa put the winning goal by the Lowell goaltender off a direct kick. Pelham goalie Brian Gettings was stellar in net and made several fantastic saves. The defense was outstanding and keyed by the play of Kellan Brouder, Kyle Bettencourt, Sam Holdsworth, Jimmy Russo, and Nick Wolfrom. Congratulations go out to Coach Tim Greenwood and his entire team!

Pelham U10 Girls Dominate in Hollis
Pelham’s Freedom team played the Hollis Cavaliers on Saturday May 2nd. The beginning of the first half found Freedom off their game fighting to gain control of the ball. The later part of the first half Freedom rallied to score two goals within minutes of each other. Both goals came from the great passing of Nicole Gargano to Kayli Keenan. Kayli’s powerful kicks were unstoppable. The second half of the game had Hollis on the run with Pelham’s passing. The next goal was another power play. This time Morgan Walsh passed to Lindsey Niemaszyk who scored the 3rd goal deep into the left corner of the net. With four and a half minutes left in the game Morgan Walsh broke out on her own and drove the ball deep into the net scoring the 4th goal of the game. The defensive line was unbreakable. The Freedom girls were hot on this cool spring day.

Pelham U11 Boys Travel Soccer Display Offense Against Windham
May 2, Golden Brook School, Windham - The Pelham U ll Boys Travel Soccer team had a successful weekend competing against rival Windham on Saturday at Golden Brook School. Steven Jackson had a goal for the Pythons off an excellent feed from Johnny Granfield. Ben Paquette found the back of the net off some impressive playmaking where Nick Kathios advanced a smartly placed pass up to forward Jack Fallon who crossed to Paquette to deposit in the net. Ben Paquette was able to repeat his success once again before the halftime whistle was blown. Windham came out strong in the second half with a fiery offensive attack and was able to net a goal for the Green. Strong defensive play by Nick Kathios, Kyle Masson and Jack Frey made it difficult for Windham to penetrate the Pelham zone. Zac Rossi was exceptional in goal for Pelham with some outstanding saves further frustrating Windham from capitalizing on their scoring opportunities. Max Odryna scored off of a rebound shot by Matt Loiacono for the final goal of the game.

Pelham Lady Bulldogs Lose to NH Classics

April 25, Muldoon Park, Pelham…The Pelham U12 Girls Travel Soccer team succumbed to the New Hampshire Classics 2-1 in a hard fought match that tested both teams endurance with temperatures reminiscent of mid summer conditions. With the beginning of school vacation, both teams were further handicapped with limited benches. With only one substitution per team there was little relief to be had for the players on the field who logged long stretches of play in the heat. The Classics struck first midway through the opening half. Within minutes, Pelham’s Taylor Patterson responded to tie the score off a controlled left footed shot, unstoppable by the Classics keeper. The Bulldogs goalkeeper, Madison Odryna, played well and helped keep the scoring neutral with an extraordinary save that had her sprawling to her right and blocking a ball eyeing the corner of the net. The score remained tie until late in the second half when the Classics capitalized on a defensive breakdown that ultimately earned them the victory.

Tryouts for Pelham Travel Soccer Club’s fall season are this weekend, Sunday, May 3rd at 9:30am at Muldoon Park. All boys and girls, ages 8 and up are encouraged to attend. Please visit us at www.pelhamtravelscoccer.com for more details.
